My Husband has Anxiety, Will In-Home Counseling Help?

Will Counseling Help my Husband Manage His Anxiety?

Help Husband Manage Anxiety - Crosswinds Counseling for Anxiety

According to various surveys, anywhere from 18-30% of Americans suffer from anxiety.  Although women are twice as likely to have anxiety than men, the effects of anxiety on men can be debilitating.

In-home counseling offers many benefits and eliminates some of the obstacles that can be present with counseling that is outside of the client’s home.

Counseling for Anxiety

For some men struggling with anxiety, it takes a lot of energy just to find the courage to engage in counseling and even more effort to leave the comfort of their home and put themselves in a setting that they are unfamiliar with.

Research has shown that counseling is one of the most effective tools to combat anxiety, and it is not uncommon for some of the anxiety to increase from having to walk into a waiting room full of strangers, or even worse, someone that they know.

Initially, the more obstacles that can be eliminated, the more engaged in counseling the client will be.  This is exactly what in-home counseling can offer, a setting that is predictable and the client has more control of the environment, which is beneficial to a client who struggles with anxiety.

From my experience as a therapist working with male clients struggling with anxiety, one of the biggest steps in overcoming the anxiety is engaging in the initial session.

Once the therapeutic relationship is established and the client’s fears of therapy are proven to be irrational, progress is made.  Men, in general, shy away from counseling for a variety of reasons. And when you couple that with anxiety and the various irrational fears, counseling can seem so overwhelming and exhausting.

Helping Men With Anxiety

It is important for a client to feel safe and to trust their therapist, so what environment is more safe, comfortable, and predictable than your own home.
