Fish with the Pros

Crosswinds is happy to share that the Lifeline’s division fundraising event, Fish with the Pros, was featured in Fort Wayne’s Business People.  Fish with Pros – Business People Nov 2015

“Fish with the Pros” are a series of annual fundraising events run by Lifeline Youth & Family Services. The events take place during a weekend in the summer or fall in a variety of different locations. Guests have the opportunity to fish with an expert during the day, experience good food and fellowship at night, and learn more about the mission and ministry of Lifeline. This year the event was held in September at the Spider Lake Retreat in Traverse City Michigan.

History of Fish With the Pros

Fish with the Pros got its start in 1999 when several Lifeline executives were casting about for fundraising ideas. They thought about a charity golf tournament, but quickly realized that everybody in the world does a golf event. Then one of the agency’s part-time employees suggested holding a sort of intensive fishing workshop, featuring prominent fishing pros who would donate their time and gear to the cause. Fourteen people signed up for the trip the first year, mostly businessmen from the area around Ft. Wayne, IN where Lifeline has its headquarters. Guests and pros spent a leisurely weekend at a cabin on Lake Leelenau near Traverse City, MI where they fished for the majority of the day and relaxed around a campfire in the evenings. Since the first trip, Fish with the Pros has grown from a small fundraising idea into a selection of sought after fishing opportunities. One such addition came in 2005 when Elite Series pro Alton Jones began hosting a Fish with the Pros event in central Texas. Another came in 2008 when Houston Astros pitcher, LaTroy Hawkins hosted his first event known as Hawks Big League Bass Classic; this unique event has brought together pros from the bass fishing and major league baseball scene. Other events include summer fishing tournaments in lower Michigan hosted by bass pro Greg Mangus, and an overnight trip in the late spring hosted by FLW Pro Chip Harrison.
